El afán de abstracción, explicó Wilhem Worringer, encuentra sus raíces en la voluntad artística de arrancar al objeto del mundo exterior de la infinita mutación a que está sujeto todo ser, desprenderlo de toda arbitrariedad y tornarlo inmutable. Ese afán aparece en la obra de Pedro Fortunato-Velázquez como una pulsión que se mueve entre polos opuestos, a saber: afirmar y negar o mostrar y ocultar. Estos son duplos expresivos de las necesidades psíquicas del ser humano en su enfrentamiento con el mundo natural.

The eager pursuit of abstraction, according to Wilhem Worringer, finds its roots in the will to form in order to root out the object of the exterior world from the infinite mutations that every being is subject to, in order to detach it of any arbitrariness and to turn it immutable. This pursuit in Pedro Fortunato-Velazquez art work appears as force that moves between two opposites poles: to affirm and to negate or to show and hide. These are the duplets expressive of the human being’s psychic needs in his confrontation with the natural world.
